HEALING Power
“he shall rise from the dead, with healing in his wings”
(2 Nephi 25:13)
The healing power of the Atonement
Christ suffered for our pains, afflictions, temptations, hunger, thirst, fatigue, sickness and illnesses (Mosiah 3:7, Alma 7:11-12). Isaiah adds that He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:3).
Why did he need to suffer these
things? All he needed to do was pay for our sins and overcome death, right? The
answer lies in Alma 7:12. Because He suffered our pains, Christ can and will
heal and succor us as we come unto Him (3 Nephi 9:13; Matt. 13:15; Jeremiah
3:22). To
succor means to give aid or relief. Which of us isn’t in need of aid and
relief?

There is nothing, no experience, no hurt or
suffering for which we can tell the Savior, “You just don’t know how I feel.” Whether
we feel betrayed, offended, lonely, abused, neglected, forgotten,
underappreciated, unforgiving, disappointed, depressed, or otherwise hurt, He
knows. And not only that, He knows how to succor, strengthen, lift up and
comfort us. He is not only sympathetic to our woes, he is empathetic, for He
has suffered those very same pains and sorrows.
Though the Lord calmed the storm on the Sea
of Galilee, most often the Lord’s Grace doesn’t take one out of a situation or
remove the trial. Often His Grace is given to calm to sailor, not the sea. It
can give strength to the weak, comfort to the downtrodden, and lighten the
loads of the overburdened.
Each of these blessings is available to us
now. We don’t need to be perfect. We just need to be trying our best, and
faithfully seeking His divine assistance.
